Nike April Review: part 1 – the high

April 22, 2009 § Leave a comment

Spring is my favortite time of year. The snow is gone and it’s foggy here in Halifax almost every other day. With the arrival of April comes the the best seasonal release from Nike, the first drop of the Summer. Now is the freak out for the sneaker.

So I thought I’d share a chunk of what I am getting giddy about. I know there’s more than a few.

Sweet Classic High

A new lifestyle release that will be the staple sneaker in any collection for the summer season. Cop 3 or 4 pairs, you must. The Sweet Classic High does have some similarities to the Nike Blazer, but the shoe is cut higher than your typical Blazer . This design is constructed of a white perforated upper, black pebbled leather swoosh and a white high grade leather tongue. Available now at HUF.

Blazer Hi “Jackie Robinson” Pack

This pack is paying homage to baseball icon Jackie Robinson. Jackie is widely recognized not just as a superstar player, for which he was, but for as well as his role breaking the colour barrier within Major League Baseball on top of. This is why he remains a cultural legend within the world of sports and civil rights alike. The colours of this new dedication pack are ones that have become synonymous with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers since their inception into the National League in 1890. To support this theme the collection displays the trademark Brooklyn logo on each tongue and the traditional Brooklyn “B” emblazoned in an all-over Diamond print format. All three colourways of these Blazer Hi’s, including a red canvas, royal nubuck, and grey suede, are now available at select Nike retailers including Proper.

Air Jordan 1 Black/Red/Yellow Colourway

Yet another drop from the Jordan camp. This colourway is kept quite simple with a black/red upper accented with yellow contrast stitching and a chenille swoosh.  Rumored to be an Asia exclusive, but we’ll have to wait and see. Source: Kenlu

Terminator Hybrid 2009 April Releases

I fully agree with Hypbeast comments about these releases. The Terminator Hybrid is a favorites. Here we are with a slimed down Terminator. Being a more narrow with some nice technical elements Nike has produced a winning combination. Nike has included a few nice modern updates such as Clima-Fit, eco-friendly Re-Grind and the much tested Huarache fit system. These two new colors are available now at mita.

Air Tech Challenge Hybrid – New Colorway

This edition of the Tech Challenge fuses four generations of Andre Agassi signature models. This 90’s-inspired aesthetic with a florescent color scheme is on a darker backdrop than the previous model. So ridiculously awesome. Source: Sneaker Freaker

nike-vandal-hi-heavy-metal-white-2Vandal Hi “Heavy Metal” White Colorway

The continuation of the “Heavy Metal” theme of last year, Nike delivers to the need for another colourway. This time around as a white interpretation of the classic Vandal Hi model. The sneaker features a studded tonal upper combined with heavyweight nylon and metallic silver studs accenting the straps. Much more toned down that its predecessors, this new release is now available through Proper.
